Quick confession before we get into it. We missed last week. No recap, no note, not even a wave goodbye. That is what happens sometimes when you put your head down to build, whole weeks slip past while you are elbow deep in it. We are back now, and we did not come empty handed.
The thing everyone is doing right now
Right now a lot of people are making their own games. You describe what you want, you get a playable thing back by the afternoon, and suddenly there are more homemade games floating around than there have ever been. The catch is the same one that has always been there. You make the thing, and then where does it go. It sits in a folder. You send a friend a zip. It never really gets to be a game that other people just walk up and play. The other side of that story is the one we keep coming back to, which is that the games people love should get to stay online and the stuff you make should be yours. Both of those point at the same missing piece, a place to put a game and have people actually play it. That is where our last stretch of building went.
Put your game up, watch people play it
Vibe Deploy is live at vibe.forked.gg. Made a little browser game? Drop it in. A human gives it a quick once-over to keep the junk out, and then it goes live at its own link that you can send anywhere. Anyone can play it, no install, no account needed just to browse. There is a public shelf of what the community has already put up, so you can wander in and play other people's games too. It keeps score with your real Discord name on the board, so bragging rights actually mean something. Want to ship a new version later? You can, and the old one keeps running until the new one is cleared. Changed your mind entirely? You can pull your game down for good. We wrote a plain guide for anyone who wants to try it, over at vibe.forked.gg/docs. And your game gets held across a network of machines around the world, so it is not riding on one computer under somebody's desk.
A co-op raid we built for the crew
The other big one is a game we built ourselves, and we cannot wait for you to get your hands on it. FORKED://BREACH is a co-op hacking game for a whole crew at once. You log in with Discord, pick a role, and work as a team to crack your way into a network before the trace meter climbs to the top and locks you out. One person scouts ahead, one person breaks through the doors, and the big firewall gate only comes down when enough of you throw everything at it at the same moment. It only really works if the room is talking to each other, which is the whole idea. It shows your real Discord name and face, so it feels like your crew and not a lobby full of strangers.
It is built and it plays, and we are lining it up as a Discord event the whole community can jump into together. It has not opened yet, so keep an eye on the Discord, because that is where the first raid will go out. If pulling off a heist with a room full of people sounds like your kind of night, this is the one to watch for.
Come play this weekend
You do not have to wait to play, though. We are throwing a community play session this weekend on the live game, so jump in, put it and our network through their paces, and whoever lands at the top of the board walks away with bragging rights and a stack of community points. No entry fee, nothing to buy, just show up and play. The Discord is the place to be for it.
For the people who run the machines
A quieter one, but it matters. All of this runs on computers that regular people plug in to power the network. Those folks got a clean dashboard built right into the software, so they can see at a glance how their machine is doing and what it has earned, in one window instead of hunting around five different pages. The nicer we make that side, the more machines come online, and the steadier everything you play on gets for everyone else.
A test network you can get your hands on
One more, and we are keeping it plain because it is early days. This week we are switching on a test network where you can run a node on it yourself and even weigh in on where it goes next. It is a test, so there is no real money in play. It is a sandbox for kicking the tires alongside the community while the serious pieces get their proper checks. If you like being early to things, this is a good one to be early to. Watch the Discord and we will point you at it the moment it is open.
What we want to get done this week
A quick look at where our heads are for the week ahead, because half the fun is knowing what is coming. The big one is the test network nodes going live. Running a node is the part of Forked that turns a pile of separate machines into one network that games actually live on, and so far we have mostly run that on our own machines. This week we want to open it up, so anyone who wants to run a node on the test network can just step in and do it. It is still a test, so there is no real money involved, but it is the real shape of how the whole thing works, and the people who get on early are the ones who help us shape it.
Right behind that is the first FORKED://BREACH raid. The game is built and it plays, so the job now is to pick a night, round up a room, and actually run it as a community event. We also want to keep the Vibe Deploy shelf growing, so if you have a little game in you, this is a good week to put it up.
There is a fair bit more we have been building that is not switched on for everyone yet, the quieter plumbing that makes running a node feel good and keeps the network steadier the more people join. It is close, and you will see it surface over the next few weeks. That is the honest state of things, plenty to play with today and a clear line on what is next.
Where this is heading
Step back and it is the same plan it has always been. A place where you can play, where you can put up something you made and have people actually play it, and where the games you love and the credit you build up are really yours and really stay online. One of those you can click today, and the next one is built and waiting in the wings for the crew. Bring some friends.
More next Sunday.
